Materials: American Revolution sentence cards (number the back of cards with numbers so that the beginnings and ends of the sentences/information cards have the same number and can be easily identifiable). The first part of the sentence card has a single line around the text. The second part of the information strip has a double line around the text.
Procedure: Read the book together. Talk about the American Revolution and what life was like during that time period. Be sure that the student understands the text. When you are finished reading and discussing, play the game using the directions below. Choose a vocabulary activity to reinforce meaning. This game can be played either individually or with two players. It can be cooperative or competitive.
Game Directions for individual player or two players working cooperatively: 1. Sort out the cards so the beginnings of the sentences are in one pile and the endings of the sentences are in another.
2. The player reads the sentences and works on matching up the two parts to make complete sentences.
3. When finished, have player turn the cards over and check the numbers on the backs.
